Haw.
Yeah. I guess I should post about this.
My exam results came in the mail last Friday, and as expected, two zeroes and six or so NAs, for “niet afgelegd”, meaning I didn’t take them.
Didn’t come to the huge argument I expected (pity in some ways).
Upshot of the whole thing is that I’m no longer a Japanology student. My original intention was to switch to whatever the name of the thing Coren is doing right now is, only with Dutch instead of French (and English, a’course). So I went down to Student Administration on Monday, and they told me that you could only switch before February 28th. They could make an exception if I got written permission from the faculty head, because it was the same faculty, but she was home sick that day.
Probably a good thing, really, because it gave me some more time to think.
My parents seem to be pushing me in the direction of some type of CompSci somewhere not in Leuven, which might actually be a good idea. Not sure what or where, though. Guess I’ve got six or seven months to figure that out.
As for what I’m going to do for the rest of the year, meh. If it were up to me, I’d just follow a few classes that interest me, in a passive research kind of way, and work on Muffins (and similar projects) a lot. I have a feeling my mom is going to make me get a job, though (despite the fact that Muffins is making me more money than any job I could find for that length of time on this short a notice probably could), or at least annoy the fuck out of me for the duration by cutting my internet again (very productive, no doubt) and/or by imposing other arbitrary limits.
The moment she even hints at charging rent, I’m moving out, liquid funds or no.
All in all, I’m fairly optimistic about the entire situation, but I have a feeling she’s going to make it a fuck of a lot harder than it needs to be, for everyone involved.

Hmm.
I’d think checking out different faculties would be a good idea. That’s what I did when I gave up on Engineering. And if Muffins really does make money, it’s as good as any other job, especially if you plan on doing CompSci.
A word of warning, though, more than half of what you need to study in languages is amazingly dull. Literature is fun, the practical things are easy and some of the general courses are tolerable, but all the grammar… >..>
These other students, I might add, will probably all be of the opposite sex. This probably sounds like a good thing, but girls in packs, without a few males to keep them civilized, tend to talk about shoes a lot.
If you ever want to take some courses in my year, just tell me, we’ll arrange something.
I wouldn’t know about pure CompSci, but when I got Informatics back when I was doing Engineering, I remember it being a very practical course, where you needed to complete assignments in groups (we had to write programs in Java), and the exam was all about justifying why you coded it that way.
I suppose you’ll get a lot of maths, too. And less girls >.>

Mmmm, grammar….
No, really. My favorite part of learning a language is learning its rules. Even if they’re often broken. >_>
