Does this surprise anyone?

Bush spares Libby from 2 1/2-year prison term

“I respect the jury’s verdict,” Bush said in a statement. “But I have concluded that the prison sentence given to Mr. Libby is excessive. Therefore, I am commuting the portion of Mr. Libby’s sentence that required him to spend thirty months in prison.”

That’s quite an idiosyncratic definition of “respect”.

It’s not a full pardon, but it’s still a clear message: the rule of law does not apply to members of the Party.
The fact that it’s not surprising doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be outraged by it.

Yeah, for all the bending over the journalists themselves seem to do (though they’re getting better), the photographers still seem to be having fun.
